We’re seeking an experienced Director of Purchasing & Supply Chain to join a stable and well-established leader in the flexible plastic packaging industry. This role is critical to overseeing procurement operations, ensuring cost efficiency, supplier reliability, and compliance with quality standards, while driving continuous improvement across the supply chain.

Direct experience in flexible plastic packaging is REQUIRED. This position is not open to candidates without hands-on knowledge of flexible packaging materials, processes, and supplier markets.

As Director of Purchasing, you will direct and coordinate all aspects of global raw material sourcing, vendor management, contract negotiation, and inventory planning. You will work closely with production, finance, and quality teams to address supply chain challenges, optimize resources, and strengthen supplier partnerships. This role requires strong analytical capability, leadership presence, and the ability to foster accountability and operational excellence across purchasing functions.

Responsibilities

• Lead global procurement strategy for resins, films, additives, and flexible packaging components
• Negotiate supplier contracts and secure competitive pricing across domestic and international markets
• Develop and maintain strong vendor relationships to ensure material reliability, quality, and continuity of supply
• Oversee inventory planning, logistics coordination, and on-time delivery of materials to manufacturing sites
• Partner with production and R&D teams to support flexographic printing operations and new product development
• Monitor market trends and mitigate risks related to resin price volatility and supply chain disruptions
• Ensure supplier compliance with ISO, GMP, and food safety standards
• Implement continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen) within purchasing and supply chain processes
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of buyers and procurement professionals

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field (preferred)
• 10+ years of purchasing/procurement experience, with a minimum of 5 years specifically within the flexible plastic packaging industry (REQUIRED)
• Demonstrated experience procuring flexible packaging materials globally for films, labels, and related products (REQUIRED)
• Solid working knowledge of flexographic printing processes and operations (REQUIRED)
• Strong understanding of resin markets, including polyethylene, polypropylene, PET, and additives
• Proven contract negotiation and supplier management expertise
• Experience with ERP systems (SAP, JDE, NetSuite) and procurement analytics tools
• Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills
• Documented track record of delivering cost savings and improving supplier performance
