The Process Technician / Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, monitoring, and troubleshooting extrusion machinery to produce high-quality plastic or composite profiles. This role ensures optimal production efficiency, maintains quality standards, and adheres to safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up, adjust, and operate extrusion lines to manufacture plastic profiles, tubing, or specialized components per specifications.

• Monitor extrusion processes (temperature, speed, pressure) to ensure product consistency and quality.

• Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and minor repairs on extrusion equipment.

• Troubleshoot issues such as material flow inconsistencies, dimensional inaccuracies, or equipment malfunctions.

• Conduct quality inspections using measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, vision systems) to verify product tolerances.

• Collaborate with engineers and production teams to optimize processes and resolve technical challenges.

• Follow safety guidelines, including proper handling of raw materials (polymers, additives) and adherence to OSHA/company standards.

• Document production data, including scrap rates, downtime, and process adjustments.

• Assist in material handling, including loading hoppers, blending resins, and managing inventory.

Qualifications

•  2+ years in extrusion operations (plastic, rubber, or composite profile extrusion preferred).

• Understanding of extrusion machinery (single/twin-screw extruders, dies, pullers, cutters) and polymer behavior.

• Ability to diagnose and resolve mechanical or process-related issues.

• Strong focus on quality control and precision measurements.

• Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for extended periods, and working in a plastic manufacturing environment.

• Knowledge of lockout/tagout (LOTO), PPE, and hazardous material handling.

• Forklift operation, OSHA safety training, or extrusion-specific molding certifications.

Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent (required).

• Technical training or associate degree in plastics technology, manufacturing, or related field (preferred).
